The REAL Me Project: Tools for Developing Positive Body Image, Self Acceptance, and Balanced Relationships with Food & Exercise
Presented By Danielle Shelton, MM, MT-BC, CEDCAT, Founder of Better Living Solutions
According to the National Eating Disorder Association, Eating Disorders affect more than 20 million women and 10 million men across our country. Nearly 1 in 4 dieters will progress to the development of a diagnosed eating disorder which is the deadliest type of mental health illnesses in America contributing to more than 500,000 deaths per year. Disordered eating can begin very young in childhood and sadly carries through our adulthood due to many contributing factors. Some of these contributing factors include childhood memories associated with food and weight, disordered family meal time practices, poor body image, bullying, traumatic events in our lives, family history of mental health illness, confusing messages from professionals about dieting/weight loss/healthy nutrition, media influences through marketing ploys, and an overall feeling of pressure from society to “be perfect.”
During this Lunch & Learn, Danielle Shelton, founder of Better Living Solutions, will provide simple tools to help recognize and combat disordered eating and exercise practices, improve self confidence and acceptance, and challenge the inner voice inside our heads that constantly nags us to “eat better, exercise more, and weigh less. Tips will be provided for living a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition and exercise; however, the key to REAL recovery and REAL self acceptance is learning how to admire yourself more, embrace imperfections, and reframe that inner voice to speak more kindly to yourself!
Danielle Shelton is founder of Better Living Solutions Nutrition Wellness and Counseling Services as well as Better Living Solutions Recovery Center for Eating Disorders. She is a Certified Eating Disorder Creative Arts Therapist, Board Certified Music Therapist, and an active member and committee leader for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
