At ABUNDANCE WELLNESS CENTER
This class includes a Warm Up, Dancing and/or Moving to Latin/Zumba music & Rock & Roll music, Monitoring the Heart Rate during class activities and aCool Down.
· We will begin slowly to add happy, easy movement to your day, regardless of your age & fitness level.
· If you like music & you are interested in adding movement to your life, you will enjoy this class!
· The class will not be strenuous & does not require previous experience in dance.
· Movements can be easily modified to meet your needs: If you want to move very slowly, you can! If you want to move vigorously, you can!
This class also incorporates the discoveries shared in Dr. Norman Doidge’s book (The Brain’s Way of Healing, Remarkable Discoveries and Recoveries from the Frontiers of Neuroplasticity, 2015) regarding the research findings that the brain responds to music, sound & movement!
A TIME magazine health & research article is titled “What Type of Exercise is Best for the Brain?” It says, “ Exercise is just as good for the brain as it is for the body, a growing body of research is showing. And one kind in particular – aerobic exercise – appears to be king.” The researcher, Okonkwo, says, “We’ve done a series of studies showing that increased aerobic capacity boosts brain structure, function and cognition. Other people have found exercise can improve mood.”
Aerobic Exercise includes dancing, running, walking, swimming, movement, etc. and increases our heart rate, which pumps more blood to the brain. This increased blood to the brain delivers oxygen to the brain and “the brain is the biggest consumer of oxygen in the body”( Okonkwo).
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes you can move in!
