Minimizing Diastasis Recti and the Momma Pooch For New and Postpartum Moms, with Lisa Wixted| Namaste Yoga

Saturday 8/4/18   1 – 3 PM, Sliding Scale $25 — $35.

Many new moms experience Diastasis rectus abdominis (DRA, or diastasis recti) after carrying their precious little ones. Diastasis recti, a separation of the frontal abs, can contribute to issues such as back pain, bladder leakage, sexual pain, and hernia. New moms may also experience a “mamma pooch” following pregnancy. While learning to accept and affirm our post-pregnancy bodies, we also want to do what we can to improve them, for the sake of our health and our self-esteem.

Studies show that DRA can often be significantly improved through the practice of specific breathing and exercise techniques. In this workshop, you will learn strengthening breaths, low impact movements, and yoga poses designed to help reduce diastasis recti and the mamma pooch. We will pay special attention to strengthening the obliques and transverse abs safely and effectively. You will also learn what yoga poses and activities to avoid, which may surprise you—no more crunches! We will practice ways to modify our activities to promote healing.

Who We Are

HAA Board of Directors(May 2017)

Healing Arts Alliance board, May 2018

The Healing Arts Alliance of the Big Bend, Inc. (HAA) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization of
health care practitioners who offer complementary and alternative, as well as conventional and
integrative, services.

We seek to support each person in making informed health care and lifestyle choices – choices
for an effective blend of options to enhance and maintain health and recreate balance from
diseased states. Although the body is designed for self-healing, environmental, genetic and
lifestyle factors can create challenges or blockages to the body’s natural healing ability. The
intervention of healing specialists can help restore the body’s natural balanced state of health.
We do not endorse any specific method or system. Our practitioners are committed to a
nonjudgmental collaboration and co-operative relationship which will bring about the greatest
benefit to our clients and patients, our organization, and ourselves.
